A dog is a man’s best friend and so man should take all the precautions necessary to ensure that a dog receives the best care and attention. Giving your pet a bath can be quite a daunting challenge. While some canines are more willing to immerse themselves in water, there are some that need to be forced into a tub to have a bath. However, despite their willingness or unwillingness, giving a canine a good wash is absolutely necessary. Dogs should be given a bath at least once a week to ensure that all the dirt and grime is removed. A dirty pet can attract ticks which may set up home in its fur.
It should also be noted that during a dog wash, there are certain methods that need to be followed in order to get through a hassle-free bathing time. Some people make bathing errors at times. Here are some the common mistakes and ways to rectify them:
- While some people have raised tubs in which they give their canines a bath, others usually do it on the bathroom floor which is a strict no-no. You can either give your pet a bath in the kitchen sink or out in the lawn (if it is not that cold outside). By choosing a deep basin, you can have a better grip on the pet while you try to bathe it as they can be quite difficult to manage at times.
- When you place your dog in a tub, make sure that you place a towel or a cloth at the bottom as it could become quite slippery for the animal. The water plus the slippery floor of the tub could be too much to handle for the pet. Also, during the bathing process, ensure that you have a hose to spray the water. If you do not possess a hose, you can always fill a bucket with water and pour it carefully on the dog. There are some creatures who do not like the feel of water on them; therefore, ensure that you have a friend or family member by your side to soothe the pet while you pour the water. It is absolutely essential that the bathing experience is a pleasant one for the dog.
- Make sure that you cover the eyes and ears of your pet during a bath. There are many dogs who do not like water being poured on their head. Also, ensure that your dogs head is up during a shampoo session as water and soap could enter its eyes. Once done with a bath, take a soft cloth and dry your pet.
- During a dog wash, ensure that the water is not too hot or cold. Also, use a mild soap bar so that the creature reacts favorably to it. You should also add some disinfectant to the water to take care of the acne that your dog might have developed.
These steps will ensure that your pet enjoys his bathing experience, and in turn helps make it easy for you to give a bath with minimum hassle.
