Detailing exteriors of a Car

  • Use a wheel brush along with degreaser or wheel cleaner for brushing off dirt from wheel rims and cleaning them. The rims should be tackled first since there is where majority of grease, dirt and grime accumulates. You should leave some cleaning product on them for some time, like around 30 secs or a minute so that the product penetrates it and then brush it.However while using acid-based cleaners remember not to use them on clear coated wheels or polished alloy wheels; rough-textured alloy wheels are safe bets however. Glass cleaner or metal polish can be used for gleaming up of chrome wheels.
  • The tires should be washed with whitewall tire cleaner and apply tire dressing. If you want glossy finish then the dressing should be allowed to soak in. For matte look the dressing should be wiped on and off using cotton cloth.
  • To clean electronic components under the car’s hood wrap them up in plastic and then spray everything with degreaser and then use pressure washer to spray down everything.
  • While cleaning the non-metal parts underneath, dress them in rubber/vinyl protectant and if you want glossy look then let it soak in. In case of matte finish, it should be wiped off.
  • Generally factory tinting comes inbuilt in the glass but when you go for tinting afterwards, you need to be careful, especially beware of car wash cleaners containing vinegar or ammonia. So before applying the cleaner to the tinted windows it is best to check it.
  • Do not use dish detergent to wash the exterior; rather go for car wash soaps. Make sure to do everything in shady spot. Wait till the surface of the car becomes cool enough and then pile terrycloth microfiber towel; do not grind it into the surface. While cleaning tow pails- one filled with water and another with cleaner should be used. The soap should not dry, so wash and rinse one portion at a time. Air-drying should not be allowed.
  • Glass cleaner should be used for the cleaning of the windows from outside.
  • While polishing or waxing do not go for rotary buffers as they may be too much to handle. Opt for orbital buffer or dual-action polisher or you can do it even by hand.

While working on the detailing of the car’s exteriors it is always advisable to go with vertical motions. Caked-on mud and dirt and near about any grime can be taken care of by soaking them with cleaner and then washing off with high-pressure water spray. So, enjoy happy cleaning and stay happy!
