We often forget to do essential things from time to time, but carrying out regular check on your car to ensure that you stay safe on the roads is of utmost importance. Here is a simple checklist, to follow on a regular basis.

Essential Safety Checks

You must be aware that driving a car that is not mechanically sound is not only dangerous, but it is also a monetary burden to fix. You will be left with no doubt that usual car maintenance and servicing can prevent unnecessary wear and tear while keeping it running smoothly, in an optimal condition.

Let’s check out some simple tips that are easy to follow and easy to remember!

Before you pack your vehicle and hit the road for your driving tour, the Car Care Council suggests conducting a pre-vehicle inspection to help you keep away from the problem and possible safety hazards of breaking down miles away from your residence.

A pre-trip automobile check can verify how road-ready your car is. Thus, you can take steps to have the issues fixed before your road trip. Having a detailed inspection done on your vehicle will give you peace of mind as you travel and help make your trip safer.

The pre-trip car check recommended by the Car Care Council includes the following:

  • Schedule a tune-up to help your car’s engine deliver the best balance of power and fuel economy and generate the lowest level of emissions.
  • Inspect the brake system and confirm that the battery connection is tight, clean and corrosion-free.
  • Check fluids and filters, including power steering, engine oil and transmission and brake, along with antifreeze or coolant and windshield washer solvent. Dirty air filters can cause the engine to lose power and fritter away gas.
  • Check the belts and hoses that can get brittle, cracked, frayed and loose or show signs of extreme wear. These are critical to the appropriate functioning of the electrical system along with power steering¸ air conditioning and the cooling system.
  • Test the tires, including tread and tire pressure. Underinflated tires cut a car’s fuel economy and uneven wear indicates a requirement for wheel alignment. Tires should also be inspected for bald spots and bulges.
  • Check and make sure that the gas cap is not scratched, loose or missing to stop gas from evaporating or spilling.
